Cinexpert - Movie-going population barometer December 2016

In December 2016, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (53.9%, similar to that observed in November 2016). The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience in December 2016 (16.1%) increased by 2.8 percentage points compared to that observed in November (13.3%) ; this rise is due to the holidays, during which the movie-going audience traditionally is a family audience. Cumulatively, over the twelve last months of 2016, the share of 3-14 years old reached 14.3%. The share of 15-24 years also increased in December 2016 (18.6%, compared to 17.2% in November), whereas the share of seniors decreased (24.0% compared to 27.3% in November).

The share of the upper socio-professional category decreased (33.3%, -0.8 percentage point compared to November 2016), while the share of “non-working individuals” increased (42.4%, +1.4 percentage point). The share of schoolchildren, students in the movie-going audience increased (25.5% in December, compared to 22.7 in November 2016), whereas the share of retirees decreased (10.6 % in December, 11.8 % in November).

In December 2016, the proportion of occasional cinemagoers was relatively high during week 52 (23.1%). Occasional cinemagoers accounted for 17.7% of moviegoers in December (compared to 14.1% in November) and frequent cinemagoers made up 27.6% (28.1% in November).
