Cinexpert - Movie-going population barometer January 2017

In January 2017, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (53.9%, similar to that observed in December 2016).

The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience in January 2017 (13.0%) decreased by 3.2 percentage points compared to that observed in December (16.1%). The share of 15-24 years also decreased in January 2017 (17.6 %, -1.0 percentage point compared to December), whereas the share of seniors increased (28.1%, +4,1 percentage points) The share of the upper socio-professional category slightly increased (33.6%, compared to 33,3% in December 2016), while the share of “non-working individuals” decreased (41.2%, -1.2 percentage point). The share of schoolchildren and students in the movie-going audience decreased (21,9% in January, compared to 25.5% in December 2016), whereas the share of retirees increased (12,7% in January, 10.6 % in December).

In January 2016, the proportion of frequent cinemagoers was relatively high during week 3 (32.7%). Frequent cinemagoers accounted for 30.7% of moviegoers in January (compared to 27.6% in December) and occasional cinemagoers made up 13.1% (17.7% in December).
