Movie-going population barometer February 2017

In February 2017, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (51.0%, compared to 53.9% in January 2016).

The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience in February 2017 (13.9%) increased by 0.9 percentage points compared to that observed in January. The share of 15-24 years also increased in February 2017 (18.6%, +0.4 percentage point), whereas the share of seniors slightly decreased (12.3% in February, 12.7% in January). The share of the upper socio-professional category decreased (32.0%, -1,6 percentage point compared to January 2017), while the share of “non-working individuals” increased (42.3%, +1.1 percentage point). The share of schoolchildren and students in the movie-going audience increased (23.2% in February, compared to 21.9% in January 2016), whereas the share of retirees decreased (12.3% in February, 12.3 % in January).

In February 2017, the proportion of occasional cinemagoers was relatively high during week 8 (21.4%). Occasional cinemagoers accounted for 19.3% of moviegoers in February (compared to 13.1% in January) and frequent cinemagoers made up 24.2% (30.7% in January).
