Movie-going population barometer March 2017

In March 2017, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (52.8%, compared to 51.0% in February 2017). The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience decreased (12.1% in March 2017 compared to 13.9% in February 2017). Cumulatively, over the three last months of 2017, the share of 3-14 years old reached 13.1%. The share of 15-24 years old increased in March 2017 (20.2%, compared to 18.1% in February), whereas the share of seniors is stable (27.4%).

The share of the upper socio-professional category increased (32.3% compared to 32.0% in February 2017), whereas the share of “non-working individuals” decreased (41.8% compared to 42.3% in February 2017). This is mainly due to the share of schoolchildren, students in the movie-going audience (-1,1 percentage points compared to February 2017).

In March 2017, the proportion of frequent cinemagoers was relatively high during weeks 11 and 12 (27.5%). Globally, frequent cinemagoers accounted for 24.9% of moviegoers in March (compared to 24.2% in February) and occasional cinemagoers made up 16.6% (19.3% in February).
