Movie-going population barometer October 2017

In October 2017, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (54.2%, 55.6% in September 2017).

The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience increased (15.7% in October 2017 compared to 14.1% in September 2017), due to the School Holidays. Cumulatively, over the ten last months of 2017, the share of 3-14 years old reached 14.7%. The share of 15-24 years old decreased in October 2017 (20.9%, compared to 21.8% in September), whereas the share of seniors was relatively stable (23.5%, compared to 23.1% in September). In October 2017, the average age of cinemagoers is 35 years.

The share of the upper socio-professional category decreased (33.5% compared to 34.6% in September 2017), whereas the share of “non-working individuals” increased (42.6% compared to 40.6% in September 2017). This is mainly due to the share of schoolchildren, students (+1.3 percentage point compared to September 2017) and also the share of retired in the movie-going audience (+0.7 percentage point). In October 2017, the proportion of occasional cinemagoers was relatively high during week 43 (more than 20%). Globally, occasional cinemagoers accounted for 17.7% of moviegoers in October (compared to 13.2% in September) and frequent cinemagoers made up 25.8% (30.2% in September).
