Movie-going population barometer May 2018

In May 2018, the movie-going audience was mostly made up of men (53.1%, 52.4% in April 2018).
The proportion of individuals under 15 in the movie-going audience decreased (15.4% in May 2018 compared to 17.1% in April), despite the School Holidays. Cumulatively, over the five last months of 2018, the share of 3-14 years old reached 15.8%. The share of 15-24 years old is relatively stable (20.9%, compared to 20.1% in April 2018), as the share of seniors (38.0%, compared to 37.6% in April). In May 2018, the average age of cinemagoers is 38 years.
The share of the upper socio-professional category increased in May (30.5% compared to 29.2% in April 2018), whereas the share of “non-working individuals” decreased (49.9% compared to 52.5% in April 2018). This is mainly due to the share of students (-1,7 percentage point compared to April).
In May 2018, the proportion of frequent cinemagoers was relatively high during week 20 (21.8%). Globally, frequent cinemagoers accounted for 19.5% of moviegoers in May (compared to 15.9% in April) and occasional cinemagoers made up 30.2% (34.5% in April).
