Major festivals are an echo of the world and of human questioning, as this 66th selection of the Cannes Film Festival so wonderfully shows.
Sex, couples, the family… rarely have these scenes of intimacy, these determining factors of identity, been filmed with such depth, accuracy, audacity and crudeness by so many directors around the world, and particularly by those from France, the country of romance.
True feelings, tracked down to the hint of a smile, the brushing of a caress, to the struggle of love, to sacrifice, prostitution, murder, suicide, execution.
The President of the CNC is delighted to note the historically key position of the French film directors selected by the most prestigious film Festival in the world: Valéria Bruni-Tedeschi, Guillaume Canet, Claire Denis, Arnaud Desplechin, Alain Guiraudie, Abdellatif Kechiche, Claude Lanzmann, François Ozon, Arnaud Des Pallières, Roman Polanski, Jérôme Salle and Rebecca Zlotowski. He is also pleased with the significant number of directors recognized by the Festival that produced or co-produced films with France: particularly the Coen brothers, Amat Escalante, Asghar Farhadi, Valeria Golino, James Gray, Rithy Panh, Lucia Puenzo, Mahamat Saleh Haroun, Hiner Saleem, Paolo Sorrentino.
Eric Garandeau warmly congratulates all of the award winners. He extends his congratulations particularly to Abdellatif Kechiche, who received the Palme d’Or for his film "Blue is the Warmest Color," along with his two marvelous actresses, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux.
This extremely moving love story received the CNC’s automatic and selective support in partnership with the Eurimages fund and the Nord Pas-de-Calais region.
The CNC also offers its heartiest congratulations to Bérénice Bejo for her moving performance in "The Past" by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, a film shot in France, in French, by a French producer with the CNC’s automatic support funds, an advance on earnings, and a partnership with the Eurimages fund and the Ile-de-France region.
The CNC is also proud of the prize awarded to "Heli," by Mexican director Amat Escalante, a film co-produced with France with the support of the CNC Fonds Sud.
The Fonds Sud, now kowns as World Cinema Support, enables France to help more than 50 art house films each year across all the continents.

The CNC used to be the center of French cinematography. It now supports art house films from all countries. This is a very concrete illustration of the “cultural exception,” whose virtue was recalled by the President of the Jury, Steven Spielberg, during the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival.
The President of the CNC also congratulates the winners of the "Un Certain Regard" selection, particularly Rithy Panh for his impressive "Image Manquante," the last installment in his trilogy on the genocide in Cambodia, and Alain Guiraudie for "Stranger by the Lake". He is also glad about the SACD Prize and the Art Cinema Award given by the Directors’ Fortnight to Guillaume Gallienne, who revealed a true talent as a director in his first film "Me, Myself and Mum," which received the CNC’s new production technology support. Congratulations also to Serge Bozon for the SACD Prize special mention for his film "Tip-Top".
