The Polish Film Institute joins the list of the European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Films contributors. Due to the proximity of the Polish and Ukrainian cinematographies, this arrival was eagerly awaited by Ukrainian professionals. It will enable co-productions between the two countries to be eligible to the fund's support scheme.
The fund now brings together 19 contributors: 18 European ministries of culture or national film centres, members of the EFAD association, as well as the association itself.
During the event "The European model of cinema, leading by example", organised by the CNC on Sunday 18 May, Mykola Tochytskyi, the Ukrainian Minister for Culture and Strategic Communications, addressed the audience through video. He thanked all the European partners for their support, stressing the need to broadcast Ukrainian voices throughout Europe.
Since the fund was established in 2023, 57 grants have been awarded for the development, production or finalisation of Ukrainian works. At this year's Cannes Film Festival, the documentary Militantropos by Alina Gorlova, Simon Mozgovyi and Yelizaveta Smith was selected in the Directors' Fortnight.
The new call for projects is open until Monday 30 June, the deadline to submit applications. Eligible projects can belong to the genres of fiction, documentary or animation. Fiction and animation grants are capped at €200,000, while documentary support will be capped at €90,000.
