Launched in May 2026 at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi (Kenya), the FAPA is designed to support organizations working on the training and mentoring of professionals of the cinema. It awards grants to help implement programs dedicated to authors and producers coming from sub‑Saharan African countries and Haiti.
15 programs selected from 44 applications
For this first edition, the FAPA received 44 eligible applications from 14 countries : Benin, Canada, the Central African Republic, France, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.
After reviewing the applications, the selection committee chose 15 mentoring programs. The selection took place online on 31 August 2026, in the presence of all FAPA partners and two independent experts.
This first selection marks a new stage for the fund, with projects coming from varied geographic backgrounds and representing several film and audiovisual ecosystems.
A scheme backed by several partners
The FAPA is led by the CNC, in partnership with the Film Fund Luxembourg (FFL), the Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece, the Institut français, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Wallonia-Brussels International (FWB-WBI), the SACD, the SACD in Belgium, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Telefilm Canada and SACD in Canada. For 2026, FAPA is supported by the French Ministry of Culture.
The Fund has also welcomed a new member since August : Morocco's Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication. This addition strengthens FAPA’s presence and integration on the African continent. Morocco’s entry follows on from commitments made during the 15th France‑Morocco High‑Level Meeting (RHN), where Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication reaffirmed its commitment to working toward the development and promotion of film and audiovisual production in Africa, especially through the training of authors and producers.
With this first call for projects, the fund aims to contribute to skills development and to structuring professional pathways in the film and audiovisual sectors.
