Hand polished is a programme from the CNC French film archives restored collections and also made up from its AFCA and CITIA film collections.

Commercials were associated with animation very early on in France and allowed a number of artists to secure a regular source of income throughout the 20th century that could be added to their less lucrative independent artistic projects.

During the years from 1910 to 1930, the films were generally made by film makers already established in the profession, which gave them more variety in their work. After this, new talents began to appear in the world of cinema advertising that also now had sound.

They brought a more adventurous approach to the scenarios and look of the products that were presented in spectacular settings full of humour sometimes bordering on the absurd.
