In 2022, as announced by the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul-Malak, the CNC, in partnership with the Cité internationale des arts, launches the new residency programme entitled “Caméra libre!” (Free Camera). This programme aims to welcome foreign filmmakers for six months in Paris who are confronted with censorship, persecution or political violence putting them in danger, preventing them from developing their project, or making it difficult for them to network with potential financial partners.

“Caméra libre!” is aimed at authors and film directors who have already made at least one feature film selected in an international festival and who are in the process of developing a feature film project for international release.

The projects will be examined by a commission composed of seven members selected among French or foreign film professionals with a particular connection to countries that have experienced or are experiencing situations depriving people of freedom of expression, or among individuals qualified in defending freedom of expression.

Full information regarding the eligibility criteria and application process can be found in the description of the residency programme available for download.

The call for applications is open until 6 November 2022. The project selection committee will meet in December 2022. The selected directors will start their residency from 3 February 2023 for six months.
